Sean Nunan '87, chair of the English Department and an 18 year member of the CBA faculy, was honored by the Academy on Thursday, April 23, as the Distinguished Lasallian Educator of the Year.
In nominating Mr. Nunan for this award, it was noted that: "Mr. Nunan reflects the spirit of Saint LaSalle in every aspect of his personal and professional life. He is dedicated as a teacher – not just to the material which he teaches, of which he is unquestionably a master – but to the hopes, aspirations, fears and concerns of the students in his class. He lifts up his students by challenging them intellectually, emotionally and spiritually without being belittling or condescending. Though not one to flaunt his successes or his gifts as a scholar and teacher, Mr. Nunan works to encourage his colleagues, especially those in his department, with support and advice."
The Distinguished Lasalian Educator of the Year Award honors a member of the faculty who exemplifies the spirit of St. La Salle through a commitment to the values and goals put forth by La Salle and the Brothers through the charism of their founding.
During his time at CBA, Mr. Nunan has been faculty adviser of the Academy Torch, (the student newspaper) coach of the chess team and supervisor for intramural sports activities. In addition to his responsibilities as chair of the English department, Mr. Nunan is the manager of the bookstore. He recently chaired the committee on the self-study for Middle States.
He and his wife, Sonja, have three children and reside in Brick. His brother, Matthew, is a graduate of CBA, class of 1988.
