September 1 sees the begining of another school year at Christian Brothers Academy. A total of 962 students, including 261 freshmen, will be welcomed to the Academy on September 3 & 4 for orientation with classes opening on September 8.
The Academy welcomes five new full-time faculty members and a new president this academic year. Brother Frank Byrne, FSC, a 1975 graduate CBA graduate, beings his tenure as president this fall. In addition to his responsibilities as president, Brother Frank will teach one class of FreshmanReligious Studies. Other new faculty members include: Ms. Mariclare Smith (English), Bro. Thomas Carney, FSC (History), Dr. Michael Koblenz (Physics), Mr. Timothy Schwark (Tech Services) and Mr. William Frake '05, (Mathematics).
The summer also saw some construction projects on the Academy campus. In addition to the rebuilding of the old sprint barn, which is now complete, some renovations were made inside of the building. The old science labs, rooms 25, 26 and 27, which were turned into regular classrooms after the 1997 opening of the new science wing, were restructured this summer. The three oversized classrooms were turned into four normal sized rooms. Room 6, a former earth science lab, was also divided into two classrooms. The nurses office moved from the locker room area to room 1 in the freshman hallway. The faculty room in the freshman wing has been expanded to include the former room 10.
