Computer Science

The Computer Science department seeks to enable students to communicate effectively in a world that is increasingly electronic. In fact, the freshman course deals primarily with that very topic: communication. Throughout their four years here, their years at college, and then the rest of their lives, CBA students will need to be able to share their ideas with others. Right at the outset, then, we teach them to use human means and technological means to convey their thoughts to other people. All sophomores are required to take a course in Introductory Computer Science at either a standard or an honors level. These courses deal more specifically with the study of how computers work, and how to work with them on a more fundamental level than merely working a word processor. The students learn about bits and bytes, binary and hexadecimal, and programming the computer in various languages and environments.

Upperclassmen may choose from several electives, including Graphic Design, Web Publishing, and Advanced Placement Computer Science.
