2012-2013 INAUGURAL SEASON CBA FENCING TEAM

In 2010, senior, Kevin Almerini, captain of the CBA Fencing Club, asked Brother Joseph Brienza, FSC, moderator, if Christian Brothers Academy could start a fencing club. The suggestion took shape over the summer of 2010. Sixteen CBA students responded to the invitation to join the CBA Fencing Club.

The sustained interest of the club members has contributed to making fencing a Varsity Sport at CBA.

Many of our club members had no experience and were introduced to the sport for the first time and with the assistance of our experienced fencers and Coach Mary Mottola we have developed fencers in all 3 weapons.

Fencing has 3 weapons, epee, foil and sabre.

A Team consists of 9 fencers ( 3 squads ) . Epee Squad – 3 fencers, Foil Squad- 3 fencers, Saber Squad- 3 fencers.

In our first competitive year we have John Vaiani, a Junior , Team Captain. John as a sophomore was the Individual Finalist in the NJSIAAl State Championships.

Coach Mary, John and the other experienced fencers, will continue to assist those students interested in making a commitment to the sport develop into fencers and be members of the CBA Fencing Team.
