Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)
The mission of CBA’s Chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) is to help students make positive decisions during high school and beyond. CBA SADD has remained one of the largest and most successful student groups in school history.
SADD holds regular meetings, typically two to three times per month, that focus on topics related to responsible teen decision-making. Recent topics have included: distracted driving, responsible social media use, teen depression & suicide, and underage alcohol abuse, among other discussions.
Aside from terrific group discussions, SADD participates in several community outreach events each year. The club is very active in fundraising efforts for local charities as well. One of the best events on the SADD calendar is the annual “Dinner for the Troops.” Held each December, the dinner honors Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II ‘00, who was killed in action in 2005. The dinner raises money for the purchase of gift cards for deployed military members. In 2015, the event raised nearly $7,000, among the 230 guests.
Students can apply for membership at the beginning of the fall. SADD elects an executive board that consists of six officers and committee chairs. Those elected are introduced at an induction ceremony during the final SADD meeting of the school year. SADD has been moderated by Mr. Frake for the past five years.
Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) strives to raise awareness among students about the dangers of misusing alcohol, prescription and non-prescription drugs and illegal substances. The club provides speakers focused on making constructive decisions as well as conducts charity fundraisers through contests with faculty, pasta dinners for the troops, raffles and charity dances.
The organization also includes up to two service opportunities and provides support groups in social settings.
SADD meets twice a month.
