Photography Teacher
Christian Brothers Academy is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, and organized individual with creative vision to take on the role of a part-time Photography Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.
Located in beautiful Monmouth County, New Jersey, Christian Brothers Academy is a Catholic college preparatory school for young men. Deeply steeped in the LaSallian tradition and a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, Christian Brothers Academy prides itself on educating the whole student. As part of that commitment, we are seeking a Photography Teacher who can assist the school in continuing to expand its burgeoning art program.
The ideal candidate is a dedicated educator and an exceptional artist with experience in multiple mediums. Furthermore, the candidate should have an engaging, dedicated, serious, and enthusiastic personality. Candidates must thoroughly enjoy working with high school students and feel confident in classroom management. The Photography Teacher will work in collaboration with the members of the Visual and Performing Arts department to grow and expand Arts programming at Christian Brothers Academy.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Instruct students in photography; prepare lesson plans and establish course goals
- Educate students on operating digital and/or film cameras (including managing darkroom development where applicable) and post-processing using editing software like Adobe Photoshop
- Provide individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs of each student
- Evaluate and give feedback on students' work
- Monitor and report on the performance of students and coordinate with administration, teachers, and parents to address concerns and correct problems should they arise
- Select textbooks and other materials for photography courses; demonstrate method and procedure to students
- Direct planning and supervision of student art exhibits
- Manage photography supplies, equipment, tools, classrooms, and storage spaces
- Other general supervisory duties throughout the school day
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Art, Art Education, or Fine Arts; Masters degree and state certification preferred
- Knowledge of PC and Mac operating systems and proficiency with Adobe Photoshop
- Knowledge of large and medium format digital printing
- Passion for art and a commitment to promoting creativity and self-expression in students
- Ability to make use of connections to the professional world of photography
- Excellent communication skills with students and parents
- Professionalism and a student-centered approach
