CBA Celebrates New National Honor Society Inductees

CBA Celebrates New National Honor Society Inductees
Jason Lutz

Continuing a rich tradition of academic and community excellence, Christian Brothers Academy officially welcomed 30 new members to the National Honor Society on February 10.

Joining the 34 CBA seniors who were inducted one year ago, these 30 new members were accepted into the prestigious society, which is based on the pillars of Scholarship, Service, Character and Leadership. At the annual NHS Induction Ceremony, the new members were conferred the ceremonial golden tassels as a display of achievement.

“Tonight is a meaningful celebration, a chance to honor young men who have set themselves apart through excellence in scholarship, service to others, leadership among their peers, and a quiet strength of character that guides everyday choices,” Principal Neil Begley ‘96 said. “These are the four pillars of the National Honor Society, but also essential to who we are at Christian Brothers Academy.”

To be accepted into the NHS at CBA, students must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 91.5, obtained a minimum of 130 service hours, and achieved 10 school activities points, which includes involvement in CBA athletics, clubs & groups, and performing arts. Students are required to have multiple reviews and recommendations from CBA faculty and outside sources.

The newest class of inductees met the requirements – and then some. The 30 Academy men exceeded the GPA minimum with a 95.3 mark, worked an average of 171 hours of community service, and gained an average of 21 activity points. These activity points are gained through valuable leadership positions as athletic team captains, executives in clubs, camp counselors, CCD teachers and Special Olympics leads.

“At Christian Brothers Academy, membership in the National Honor Society is a true honor,” NHS President Andrew Yachmetz ‘26 said. “It represents a commitment and responsibility to living out the Lasallian mission of using education as a means to better one’s community and serve others.”

Chartered at the Academy in 1965, the Saint de La Salle Chapter of the National Honor Society exists to promote scholarship, service, leadership and character among high school students. Membership is open to students who have completed at least five semesters at CBA and who exhibit the qualities of the four pillars to an exceptional degree.

Those students with the minimum academic average are invited to complete an application. Applications for rising seniors are considered in September. Applications for juniors and seniors are considered leading up to February. The society is led by Ms. Morgan Biloholowski, a member of the English department faculty.
