Science Department
HR
The Science department is dedicated to fostering a love of science and critical thought in all of our classes. We want our students to view the world scientifically and to use an inquiry-based, problem-solving approach in their everyday lives.
By exposing every student to Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, we believe that we give each student a basic understanding of the world around them and provide them with the tools needed to answer the questions they encounter on a daily basis. Through hands-on experiments and inquiry-based problem solving, we believe that we go beyond simply teaching students science. Rather, we encourage them to experience science every day.
Students who wish to continue their scientific studies are offered a variety of elective courses to deepen their scientific understanding, expose them to new scientific topics, and/or prepare them to further studies in college and beyond.

- Placement in Honors Biology for 9th grade is based on earning the qualified benchmark score on the CBA Entrance Exam.
- Placement in an Honors-level class in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade is based on a student earning the required GPA in the pre-requisite course the year prior.
- Placement in AP Biology for incoming 9th-grade students is based on a combination of qualification for Honors-level Biology from their Entrance Exam benchmark score and passing the AP Biology Placement test.
- Placement in an AP-level class in 10th, 11th or 12th grade requires a special application. All students enrolled in an AP class are required to take the AP exam at the end of the year.
