Superior General Br. Robert Schieler Visits CBA Campus
November 19, 2019
As part of his Pastoral Visit to the United States, the Superior General of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, Brother Robert Schieler, was on the Christian Brothers Academy campus early this week.
Visiting the Brothers’ District of Eastern North America (DENA), Brother Robert sat in on the DENA Mission Council meetings that were taking place at the Academy on Monday and Tuesday.
His visit demonstrates the vast, dynamic Lasallian community that backs the excellent Catholic education at CBA.
Brother Robert is stationed in Rome, where he oversees and directs over 3,500 De La Salle Brothers in 79 countries. He is just the third American Brother to be named Superior General, and the first from DENA.
As part of his many responsibilities as Superior General, Brother Robert visits all Lasallian regions and districts during his seven-year term. These Pastoral Visits are occasions for encouraging Brothers and Lasallian educators, as well as to be in dialogue with the leadership team of each District, identifying and addressing key areas of attention.
His visit to DENA began on November 6th and concludes on November 20th. He addressed the entire DENA community on November 8th from his alma mater, La Salle University in Philadelphia, as DENA celebrated its 10th anniversary as a district. CBA faculty and staff held an in-service to watch the address live on the web.
Brother Robert has been in the Lasallian community his entire life, beginning as a student at West Catholic Boys High School in Philadelphia.
During his time as a Brother, he has served as teacher, vice principal, Auxiliary Visitor, Visitor and more at a number of schools throughout the Legacy District of Baltimore, and the worldwide Institute, most notably in Manila, Iligan, and Bacolod, Philippines. Brother Robert holds masters degrees in European History (Notre Dame) and Asian Studies (University of Philippines), as well a doctorate in Educational Administration (University of Pennsylvania).
