BROTHER FRANK HONORED BY NOTRE DAME ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Christian Brothers Academy President, Brother Frank Byrne ’75, was honored with the ‘Man of the Year’ award by the University of Notre Dame’s Alumni Association on Wednesday evening.
After graduating from CBA, Brother Frank went on to earn his degree in accounting at Notre Dame. Prior to Brother Frank’s graduation from Notre Dame in 1979, five members of the Byrne family preceded him in South Bend. Notre Dame graduates from the Byrne family include great grandfather Joseph in 1879, grandfather Joseph, Jr. in 1915, uncle Joseph III in 1947, father Richard in 1951, and brother Richard Jr. in 1978. Brother Frank’s niece continued the family legacy by graduating in 2007.
Post-Notre Dame, Brother Frank began working with the Brothers of the Christian Schools at St. Raymond High School in the Bronx, while earning his master’s degree from Fordham University. He worked as the vocation director for the Christian Brothers’ New York Province before returning to St. Raymond’s to serve as principal. Prior to succeeding Brother Andrew O’Gara as CBA President, Brother Frank was elected as the Provincial of the Christian Brothers’ New York District.
A major supporter of the Fighting Irish, Brother Frank was honored with the ‘Man of the Year’ award by the Jersey Shore chapter of the ND Alumni Association. Brother Frank was commended for his willingness to always help both alumni and current students of Notre Dame, while also continuing the mission of the university by fostering Catholic education at CBA.
In his acceptance speech, Brother Frank noted how appreciative he was for the award, especially since he is the third member of his family to be honored with the ‘Man of the Year’ award. Both his grandfather and father were recipients of the ND Alumni Association’s honor.
Brother Frank also explained to the audience the longstanding tradition of CBA students heading to Notre Dame. From the class of 2015, seven students were accepted to Notre Dame, with six of those Colts attending in the fall. CBA regularly sees 10-15 students apply to Notre Dame each year.
Principal Ross Fales, Director of Advancement Bill Attardi ’82, fellow Brothers, members of the Advancement and Finance staff, CBA faculty and Academy friends were on hand to congratulate Brother Frank on his award (seen below).
On behalf of the entire Christian Brothers Academy community, congratulations to Brother Frank on this terrific achievement.
