Campus Ministry Sets New Lenten Collection Record

With the Lenten season being a time for reflection and service, CBA Campus Ministry turned in a record performance for the 2019 Lenten Mission Collection.

The student body helped Campus Ministry collect over $10,000 for our twin Brothers school in Eritrea, Africa.

Nativity School is located in Shinara Village within Eritrea. It was founded in 1961 and the Brothers of the Christian Schools took responsibility for the school in 1982 when it was solely an elementary school. They expanded it to a junior secondary school in 1993.

Today, it serves a total of 447 students with a staff of three Brothers, one priest, 14 lay teachers, one guard and two cleaners. All of the students come from financially poor families with an average of six children. Typically, only two or three children from each family have the opportunity to attend school because parents cannot afford the school fees, uniforms, books and other expenses.

Students were asked to donate small amounts of money throughout Lent on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The top donating homeroom was Mrs. Cordero-Cinko’s homeroom 402, which raised over $1,000. The previous high mark for the entire collection was just over $6,000, which was collected last spring.
