Four CBA Seniors Receive Br. Peter Mannion Scholarships
May 10, 2018
On Tuesday evening, Christian Brothers Academy seniors Jack Coleman, Francis Radics, Conor Ruckert and Peter Warshaw received scholarships in honor of past CBA principal, Brother Peter Mannion.
The four students were recipients of the Brother Peter Mannion Scholarship, given annually by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick’s Jersey Shore chapter. Brother Peter served as Academy principal from 1972 to 1979 and subsequently worked in the guidance and development offices at CBA. As a FSSP Jersey Shore board member, Brother Peter was the driving force for the creation of the FSSP Foundation, which now gives 25 scholarships per school year.
The Mannion Scholarships recognize seniors of Irish heritage who have achieved success in the classroom and been heavily involved in extracurricular activities, especially those that are community service oriented. In Brother Peter’s name, the FSSP Jersey Shore has awarded over $580,000 to deserving high school students.
The four Academy men were honored at a ceremony on Tuesday evening. The students were joined by CBA President Brother Frank Byrne.
“Congratulations to Jack, Francis, Connor and Peter on receiving these scholarships,” Brother Frank commented. “These men have exemplified the motto of our school, religio, mores and cultura, to the best of their abilities and are now honored for their good work in memory of our past principal, Brother Peter Mannion.”
