Fourteen student-athletes from Christian Brothers Academy celebrated National Signing Day on November 13, committing to continue their academic and athletic careers at Division I institutions.
Six different CBA varsity sports – baseball, crew, cross country, lacrosse, track & field and wrestling – were represented at the ceremony.
“On behalf of the entire CBA community, I would like to congratulate these young men and their families on this moment,” said Director of Athletics Michael Mazzaccaro ’11. “Their unwavering dedication to both their academic studies and their athletic pursuits have earned them the ability to attend these great institutions. We are confident their success will continue at the next level.”
The following Academy men committed on November 13:
- Joe Barrett – University of North Carolina, Cross Country
- Colin Burke – Bucknell University, Track and Field
- Connor Burke – Northeastern University, Crew
- Marcus Blasucci – Columbia University, Track and Field
- Davis Campbell – College of the Holy Cross, Lacrosse
- Robert Earle – Fairfield University, Crew
- Will Fahey – Monmouth University, Baseball
- AJ Falcone – Sacred Heart University, Wrestling
- Cameron Feiler – Wake Forest University, Track and Field
- Jackson Gervais – U.S. Air Force Academy, Lacrosse
- Hunter Kilpatrick – Sacred Heart University, Lacrosse
- Quinn Kelly – Harvard University, Lacrosse
- Luke Krebs – Bryant University, Lacrosse
- Jack McMahon – Santa Clara University, Crew
Barrett has been a record-breaker on the cross country course over his CBA career, while Colin Burke, Blasucci and Feiler have helped CBA Track & Field win multiple conference and state championships.
“CBA has definitely prepared me for this next step,” UNC-bound Barrett said. “My teachers, coaches and teammates have all helped me get to this point, and without them, there is no way I would be in this position now.”
Connor Burke, Earle and McMahon have been standout rowers for CBA Crew, specifically achieving high finishes together this fall in the Varsity 4 boat.
The five lacrosse players – Campbell, Gervais, Kilpatrick, Kelly and Krebs – helped return the Shore Conference title to CBA last spring for the first time in 15 years.
“I have been truly blessed to be part of the CBA community and a starter of the CBA lacrosse team since freshman year, where I have been challenged academically, spiritually and athletically by my teachers, coaches and friends,” Kelly said. “Even though Harvard University may be the next step on my journey, CBA is the place that shaped me to the person I am today.”
Fahey played a big role in CBA Baseball’s Shore Conference and Monmouth County titles last spring, while Falcone has been a major part of CBA Wrestling’s success over the past four years.
“CBA has helped me reach high standards academically and athletically because my teachers and Coach Ashnault have pushed me to be the best version of myself,” Falcone said. “I am ready to take the next step [at Sacred Heart] because of the confidence I have gained in my abilities while at CBA.”
The Academy looks forward to celebrating additional collegiate athletic commitments in the spring.
WHAT THE STUDENT-ATHLETES ARE SAYING
“Throughout my high school career, CBA has challenged me to strive for excellence in the classroom and on the field. Many of my teachers, along with coaches Santos and Sofield, helped me to recognize my potential as a student athlete and to lean into my personal goals. Thanks to their guidance and assistance, I’ve learned to balance my academic and athletic responsibilities to where I am confident I will be successful at Holy Cross.” – DAVIS CAMPBELL, HOLY CROSS LACROSSE
“CBA has prepared me for college because my teachers taught me how to take better notes and better manage my time. Also, I’ve received constant support from Coach Karl Torchia. He always believed in me to be a great runner and has given me tons of new opportunities athletically.” – COLIN BURKE, BUCKNELL TRACK & FIELD
“CBA has prepared me for this great opportunity by molding my character and giving me the structure to not only excel as a Division I athlete, but also serve in our United States Air Force.” – JACKSON GERVAIS, AIR FORCE ACADEMY LACROSSE
“CBA has given me a community where everyone is encouraged to challenge themselves, on and off the field, thanks to CBA’s great teachers and coaches. These four years at CBA have taught me the important values of perseverance, integrity, and charity which will stay with me for the rest of my life. On top of that, CBA provided a brotherhood that I’ll be a part of for years to come.” – MARCUS BLASUCCI, COLUMBIA TRACK & FIELD
“CBA has prepared me both academically and athletically to take the next step at Bryant University by instilling in me the importance of hard work and accountability. Every day our teachers and coaches taught us how our values, morals, and work ethic would reflect in tomorrow’s outcomes. I see the results of that in the great friendships I created, my academic achievements, and my successes with my teammates. I am confident the lessons and experiences gained in the last four years have laid a foundation for my next four.” – LUKE KREBS, BRYANT LACROSSE
“I feel that CBA has prepared me perfectly for the next step in my academic and athletic career. The workload, courses, and the athletic competition are extremely similar to what is expected in college. The relationships that I have built with friends, teachers, and coaches have helped me get to the point I am at today.” – CAMERON FEILER, WAKE FOREST TRACK & FIELD
“CBA has helped me excel both athletically and academically. Its rigorous academics pushed me out of my comfort zone, helping me become a stronger student than I thought was possible. I am grateful to Coach Santos, Coach Sofield, and my teammates who have continuously challenged me to grow and mature not only as an athlete, but as a person.” – HUNTER KILPATRICK, SACRED HEART LACROSSE
