Freshmen Experience Impactful Oath Day Tradition
March 18, 2021
Honor. Integrity. Service. Knowledge. Tradition.
The pillars of the Academy Oath are an expression of the Lasallian values that students learn and strive to live out at Christian Brothers Academy. It represents the school’s pride in its tradition and commitment to its principles. Each year, the student body reaffirms their commitment to being a student at the Academy by pledging to the Academy Oath.
The Class of 2024 finally got its opportunity to learn about the Oath and commit to its values on March 16. The youngest Colts heard from multiple speakers and participated in breakout sessions with senior leaders.
Mark Brennan ’82 began the day by speaking to the freshmen about honor and integrity in the business world. Brennan currently serves as an adjunct profession at the NYU Stern School of Business, teaching a multitude of classes including an ethics course.
Dean of Students Mr. Matt Meehan led two different sessions throughout the day, one about virtue & honor and another about Lasallian spirituality.
“Ethics begs us to identify the highest good in every situation,” Meehan told the freshmen. “That is the horizon CBA has set for you by graduation.”
The freshmen class was broken up into smaller groups to official sign the Academy Oath. Once signed, the Oath is framed and hung in the school lobby for the duration of the Class of 2024’s time at CBA.
A dozen seniors led breakout sessions throughout the day. The topics of discussion included Lasallian virtues, progressing through four years at the Academy, and encouraging them to get involved in anything and everything as the years go on.
“The characteristics you are learning now and habitually doing are so important and they are things that will construct you for the rest of your life,” said senior Jack Conway.
The Academy Oath
We the men of Christian Brothers Academy,
Do solemnly promise before God,
To live always with honor and integrity,
To serve and stand for those in need,
To strive for wisdom in the pursuit of knowledge,
To uphold the legacy and proud tradition of our Academy.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us!
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
