On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, Christian Brothers Academy welcomed Brother Ghebreyesus Habte to campus to present on the Twinning program. He was joined by one of the District twinning coordinators, Maryann Donohue-Lynch of DENA.
TWINNING IS AN INSTITUTE INITIATIVE THAT ENCOURAGES DISTRICTS THAT ARE FINANCIALLY ABLE TO AID THOSE MOST IN NEED. AS PART OF THE INITIATIVE, CBA WAS PAIRED WITH THE NATIVITY SCHOOL IN ERITREA—PART OF NORTHEASTERN AFRICA.
Through several fundraising initiatives throughout this past academic year, CBA students have helped raise funds to directly support the Nativity School.
From the Christian Brothers Conference website: “While the benefits for African students are many, twinning also impacts Lasallian students in North America by giving them an opportunity to learn about other cultures, customs, and viewpoints along with becoming more aware of their own blessings. It helps to build character and respect and develop responsibility. The partnership brings together Lasallian students on two continents, in solidarity as brothers and sisters, to share challenges, accomplishments, stories, and experiences.”

IN KEEPING WITH THE OATH TAKEN BY ALL CBA STUDENTS, THE TWINNING INITIATIVE PROVIDES ONE MORE AVENUE FOR OUR ACADEMY MEN TO “SERVE AND STAND FOR THOSE IN NEED.” THROUGH THE INITIATIVE, OUR STUDENTS CAN BETTER LEARN THE IMPORTANCE OF HELPING THOSE WHOM THEY MIGHT NEVER EVEN MEET.
