Horizons Finishes First Summer at CBA

This summer, Christian Brothers Academy was proud to host Horizons at the Jersey Shore for six weeks.

Horizons is an enrichment program designed to promote the potential of a diverse population of children from low-income families. Guided by a professional faculty in a nurturing environment, the program emphasizes academics, the arts, intramural sports, swimming, and social growth.

Horizons is committed to the development of the whole child through experiences that enhance self-esteem, foster awareness of community responsibility, build problem-solving skills, and encourage a life-long interest in learning. Horizons emphasizes a commitment to social responsibility, community service, and diversity.

CBA partnered with Horizons to provide busing to and from the Academy, use of CBA classrooms, library and fields, while also having plenty of Academy men volunteer with the program.

Over a dozen CBA students were active during the six weeks, serving as tutors, mentors and friends for over 30 kindergartners and second graders.

At the completion of the six weeks, sophomore Dean Flynn was awarded the Horizons’ new “Colt Spirit Award” for his volunteer efforts throughout the summer.

In future summers, Horizons will add two classes each year to the program at CBA, hoping to give more young kids the learning experience and excitement of being part of this dynamic initiative.
