Jack Crilly and Ronan Nielsen Earn Br. Peter Mannion Scholarships

On Tuesday evening, Christian Brothers Academy seniors Jack Crilly and Ronan Nielsen received scholarships in honor of past CBA principal, Brother Peter Mannion.

The duo were recipients of the Brother Peter Mannion Scholarship, given annually by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick’s Jersey Shore chapter. Brother Peter served as Academy principal from 1972 to 1979 and subsequently worked in the guidance and development offices at CBA. As a FSSP Jersey Shore board member, Brother Peter was the driving force for the creation of the FSSP Foundation, which now gives 30 scholarships per school year. The foundation received over 200 applicants in 2019.

The Mannion Scholarships recognize seniors of Irish heritage who have achieved success in the classroom and been heavily involved in extracurricular activities, especially those that are community service oriented. In Brother Peter’s name, the FSSP Jersey Shore has awarded nearly $600,000 to deserving high school students.

Crilly and Nielsen were honored at a ceremony on Tuesday evening. The students were joined by CBA President Brother Frank Byrne.

“Congratulations to Jack and Ronan on receiving these scholarships,” Brother Frank said. “These men have exemplified the motto of our school, religio, mores and cultura, to the best of their abilities and are now honored for their good work in memory of our past principal, Brother Peter Mannion.”
