Jake Adams ’23 Selected as Leadership Program Nominee
November 11, 2020
Jake Adams ’23 has been selected as the Christian Brothers Academy representative in the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) National Leadership Seminar.
HOBY’s flagship program allows high school sophomores to recognize their leadership talents and apply them in becoming effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community. Students attend three- or four-day seminars and participate in hands-on leadership activities, meet leaders in their state, and explore their own personal leadership skills while learning how to make a positive impact in their community.
The seminar curriculum is based on the Social Change Model of Leadership and develops leadership from three perspectives: Personal Leadership, Group Leadership, and Leadership for Society.
Selected by his guidance counselor Ms. Nicole Johnson, Adams’ resume closely met core HOBY values of volunteerism, integrity, excellence and community partnership.
“I am honored and appreciative for the opportunity I am being given, and I look forward to building on the leadership and life skills that I have learned at CBA so far,” Adams said. “I cannot wait to go through the HOBY program, and I am ready to represent CBA in the best way possible.”
In his short time at CBA, Adams has been a dedicated member of the Jazz Band as a drummer, also playing outside of CBA at the Lake House music program. Academically, he is a member of the AP and Scholar programs. He participated in freshman crew and continues to play travel soccer.
He is a passionate volunteer with the ASLAN Youth Ministries, which serves the unprivileged areas of Monmouth County.
Over 10,000 students across the country will participate in their state’s leadership seminar this spring.
The seminar weekend is filled with interactive activities and workshops that allow students to discover their personal leadership strengths. After understanding leadership from three different perspectives, students then learn to cultivate their skills to lead others and make a positive impact in their community.
