Ryan Hutzley ’16 won the 2016 Theresa and Bill Braxton Sr. Memorial Scholarship for his outstanding performance in scholastic rowing this past week.
Hutzley (pictured far right) becomes the second CBA Crew member to win the prestigious award, after Kurt Vostal in 2013. Proceeds from the annual Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta fund two scholarships, one male and one female, to help deserving high school rowers pay for college. The regatta has been held each November for the past 40-plus years. Hutzley’s CBA varsity-4 team won their division’s gold medal this past fall at the Braxton Regatta.
Hutzley was the CBA Crew captain for the past two years and was named team MVP for 2016. He is committed to row for Princeton University. But before Huztley heads out to Princeton, he will take part in the U.S. Rowing selection camp in Portland, Oregon, which begins this weekend. Hutzley will be vying- against 50 other top rowers- for a shot to represent the United States in international competition in August.
Congratulations to Ryan on this great accomplishment!
