On Wednesday, December 9th, the students of SLAB visited the Learning and Language Disabled classes at Red Bank Primary to read Christmas stories. Each CBA SLAB member individually read to a Red Bank Primary student and helped create a tree ornament while getting to know the students.
Hoping to encourage a love of reading, SLAB then presented each student with 2 books from the CBA homerooms. The books were acquired through SLAB’s fundraising efforts, which exceeded their goal and helped better promote a love of reading in our student communities.
The day was so successful that Red Bank Primary School Principal, Luigi Laugelli, a CBA alumni, invited the club back in the spring. SLAB members attending included Dan Treval ’18, Chris Werthmuller ’18, Mike Werthmuller ’18, Robert Mahala ’18 (pictured right), Jonathan Alicea ’16, Patrick Werthmuller ’18 and Greg Werthmuller ’19. SLAB is moderated by Mrs. Barbara Britton.
About SLAB
The Student Library Advisory Board (SLAB) is dedicated to spreading literacy and a joy of reading within student communities. SLAB’s latest campaign focused on active fundraising within the student body for funds to purchase books for the Learning & Language Disabled classes at Red Bank Primary School with a book.
Previous SLAB initiatives have included SAT/AP book collections to benefit our Academy men, surveys and data collection to improve library services, and hosting a Read-A-Thon to promote leisurely reading amongst our young men. SLAB meets once a week.
