Christian Brothers Academy does accept a very small amount of 10th grade students each summer. There are certain criteria which must be completed and strict deadlines that must be met in order to gain admission:
1.) The Transfer Admission Period opens April 7th, 2017. There will be a link to the transfer student application under the Admissions Tab of our website. There you will be instructed to fill out applicant information and open an admissions account. Once the application is completed forms will be emailed to you that must be taken to your current school. Our office will require:
- a. An official transcript
- b. A letter of recommendation from a teacher
- c. A letter of recommendation from an administrator
- d. A copy of your son’s discipline and attendance record
Christian Brothers Academy typically considers students with at least a 3.0 GPA (80) or better. Any students with failing yearly grades will not be considered for admission. The application and supplemental admissions documentation must be completed by July 7th. All incomplete applications will not be considered. There are no exceptions to this policy.
2.) All transfer applicants must complete an entrance examination. This exam will be scheduled and administered by July 7th. The exam is a standardized test which assessed the student’s competence in Math and English. There is a $75 dollar registration fee for taking the transfer entrance exam.
3.) Tenth grade transfer students must complete a two week long “Living LaSallian” Summer Academy held at Christian Brothers Academy. Students are required to attend every session from 9 a.m.to 12 p.m. on scheduled days. This Academy will acquaint transfer students with the Catholic faith and principles of Lasallian education. Students must complete this course, with a recommendation from the instructor/s and approval from the principal. Students will be responsible for the cost of these sessions. The tuition of $500 must be paid in full at the beginning of the “Living LaSallian” Summer Academy. This session will be held in August.
4.) Christian Brothers Academy typically does not accept transfer student starting the 11th grade. Exceptions would include students transferring from out of state and/or those coming from another Catholic/Lasallian High School. Eleventh grade transfer students will be mandated to take an online religion course through a partnership with Manhattan College. This will satisfy the two years of religious studies they have missed at their previous school. The course will have a discounted tuition and is the responsibility of the transfer students’ family and not part of their CBA tuition.
Students whose parents are active military and who are moving into the area will also be considered for admission. The principal reserves the right to determine what 11th grade students can and cannot apply to Christian Brothers Academy. Any 11th grade transfer student must adhere to the same aforementioned deadlines and admissions criteria. Individual exceptions are occasionally considered for upperclassmen admissions.
Admissions decisions will be made by the third week of August.
