As is the tradition at Christian Brothers Academy, the student body gathered Wednesday morning for the annual LaSalle Prayer Service and Academic Awards.

Presented by Principal Ross Fales, Associate Principal Sean Nunan and the academic department chairs, the following Academy men were honored for their outstanding academic and service achievements during the 2018-2019 school year.

The 20^th annual Duffy Memorial Award for Spanish is sponsored by graduate Sean Duffy in honor of his parents. This award honors the junior with the highest cumulative average in the study of Spanish. This year’s winner is Aedan Moran.

The 14^th annual Ceres Memorial Award for Physics is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Ceres in memory of their son Gerald, CBA class of 2003. This award honors the junior with the highest average in Physics. This year’s winner is  Eric Hawkins.

The 7^th annual Frank Bulzis Senior Mathematics Award is sponsored by Mrs. Doreen Bulzis in memory of her husband and our colleague Frank Bulzis. This award honors the junior with the highest cumulative average in the study of mathematics. This year’s winner is Joseph Cisar.

The 5^th annual Joseph Castle Award for History is sponsored by Mr. Joseph Castle, CBA Class of 1990. This award honors to the junior with the highest cumulative average in the study of history. This year’s winner is Gary Fletcher.

The 5^th annual John and Carol DeMuria Award for English is sponsored by John and Carol DeMuria, the proud parents of Jonathon (class of 2003), Daniel (class of 2011), and Nicholas (class of 2016). This award goes to the junior with the highest cumulative average in the study of English. This year’s winner is Gary Fletcher.

The 3^rd annual Br. Frank Byrne Award for Theology is sponsored by Mr. Bill Moss, CBA class of 1975 and his wife Liz Moss, along with classmates and friends of Br. Frank. This award honors the junior with the highest cumulative average in the study of Theology. This year’s winner is Troy Hill.

The 2^nd annual Brother Ralph Montedoro Award for Service to the Poor is sponsored by former CBA head of guidance Mr. Jack Brennan. This award honors the junior who has best exemplified the Christian Service belief in direct service to those in need. This year’s winner is Patrick Dickinson.

Three faculty members were recognized for 25 years of dedicated service to Christian Brothers Academy: Mr. Dave Santos ’85, Mrs. Monica Slattery, Mr. Jimmy Speidel.

The Distinguished Lasallian Educator of the Year Award was presented to Mr. Bill Frake ’05. Mr. Frake has been a member of the mathematics department since the fall of 2009, where he quickly became a student-favorite for his personal interactions with his students. He has gone above and beyond to lend a helping hand to Academy men, not only in their math studies, but also in their lives outside of the classroom. Mr. Frake makes sure he recognizes student achievements whenever possible, whether on a math test, on the theater stage, or on the field. Mr. Frake has also served as the “voice of the Colts” for nearly a decade, working as the public address announcer at basketball, baseball, lacrosse and soccer games.
