On Thursday, January 28th, four of our Academy men from Pegasus Production Company travelled down to Spring Lake to help a local day care center with their annual “Winter Gala” fundraiser.
“They [KinderCare of Wall] were looking for help and I felt it would be a good opportunity for our students to use the skills they’ve learned to help others,” said Mr. Orozco, director of Pegasus Production Company.
Unique to CBA amongst many other high school theater programs is an emphasis on learning how to run every aspect of theater. Students are given the real-world challenge of doing all the creative work, design and production for every show.
Using their experience, the Academy students set up and managed all sound and lighting equipment, ran all tech during the show, and even did some lighting design for the preschool performers. Four groups totaling 75 students performed and raised money during the event, with all proceeds going to the March of Dimes.
Kristen Frank, director of KinderCare of Wall noted the impact of having our Academy men at the helm. “The production was nothing less than amazing,” said Frank. “[The CBA students were] so helpful, and truly took this event to the next level.” The Gala was attended by over 300 members of the KinderCare of Wall community.
“I was so proud watching them represent our company and CBA in such a professional manner,” said Orozco. “It’s great to see our students giving up their own time to share their talents to make a special event even more special.”
The juniors’ talents will be back in full force this March for the spring musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
