Brother Andrew Golf Outing Honors an Icon’s Legacy

Brother Andrew O’Gara was named the high school “Coach of the Decade” in the 1980’s for his passionate work with the CBA varsity golf team, so it’s only fitting there’s a golf outing named after the first CBA president.
On Monday, 130 CBA alumni, donors and friends enjoyed the annual Brother Andrew O’Gara Golf Outing at Metedeconk National Golf Course in Jackson, which donates all proceeds to funding tuition assistance for current and future Academy students.
The golf outing is an opportunity for the CBA community to honor a man who was instrumental to so many CBA students’ lives and helped build the Academy into what it is today. The annual event helps continue Brother Andrew’s good work by funding financial aid to allow deserving young men to experience all that CBA has to offer. In total, this year’s outing raises over $40,000.
The event, organized by the CBA Fathers’ Club, features an early lunch before a shot gun start, followed by a cocktail reception and dinner after golf. This year’s honorary chairperson was Philip J. Shaheen ’75, the president of Builders’ General Supply Company.
“Congratulations to this year’s Honorary Chair, Phil Shaheen ’75, and to the Fathers’ Club golf committee for another successful event,” President Brother Frank Byrne said. “The outing is a true representation of Brother Andrew’s life: a gathering of CBA alumni and friends, helping young men receive an outstanding education, and of course, golf.”
