Students Presented with Seal of Biliteracy, Inducted into Language Honor Societies

Each March, Christian Brothers Academy recognizes World Language Month with a special ceremony to commend high-performing world language students.

Nearly 100 students were welcomed into the World Language Honor Society – across Spanish, French and Latin disciplines – on March 28 in Henderson Theater.

In addition to those added to the Honor Society, 46 students were awarded the Seal of Biliteracy, recognizing their excellent performance in world language. Thirty-nine students were presented the Spanish Seal of Biliteracy, five students earned the French Seal of Biliteracy, and two students obtained the Latin Seal of Biliteracy.

As per the state of New Jersey, the Seal of Biliteracy is awarded by the CBA Principal and World Language Department Chair to graduating seniors who have completed the requirements for graduation from Christian Brothers Academy and who also meet all of the marks for above average proficiency in English and a second language.

“Congratulations to the 95 students inducted to the honor societies and to the 46 senior recipients of the Seal of Biliteracy,” said Mrs. Alicia Ver Hoven, department chair. “Their passion and desire to continue with their study of the language and culture in order to make meaningful contributions to our global society and increase cultural awareness for others is truly inspirational.”

CBA inducted 62 students into the Spanish Honor Society, 20 students into the French Honor Society, and 13 students into the Latin Honor Society. These students must have obtained a 92 overall average in their world language course, and maintained an 85 overall average in the remainder of their courses.
